Obverse – Meir Eshel, Reverse Michael Faber. Eighth in the “Jerusalem of Gold” Bullion Coin Series. The Cardo was the main street, the heart of the city and trade center which ran from north to south in Roman cities. The Roman City built by Emperor Hadrian on the ruins of Jerusalem following the Bar Cochba Revolt (132-135 CE), had a Cardo. Running from Damascus Gate in the north of the city, southwards, this Cardo was extended further southwards to Zion Gate by the Emperor Justinius in the 6. The Cardo had an open roadway in the center for carriages and animals. For pedestrians, there were roofed sidewalks supported by pillars crowned with impressive Byzantine-style Corinthian capitals. The mosaic map of Jerusalem discovered on a sixth-century Byzantine church floor in Madaba, Jordan, shows the original route of the Cardo and excavations in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem revealed parts of it. Today, the restored Cardo in the Old City has become a lively touristic area, reflecting the history of Jerusalem. Along the colonnaded street, modern shops have taken the place of the Roman shops that were once there. Day after day, people from all over the world walk along the sidewalk, treading on the same stones, alongside the same stone pillars, all of which are imbued with the unique, enchanting atmosphere of Jerusalem. The Lion of Megiddo with its stylized curved tail, taken from an ancient seal dating from the 8th century BCE, excavated in Megiddo (Armageddon) in the Jordan Valley. Above the lion is the Israel State Emblem and below it, Israel in English, Hebrew and Arabic. The Madaba Map and in the background, one of the Cardo pillars. In the upper border is the inscription Jerusalem in English, Hebrew and Arabic, upper right, is the face value “20 New Shekels” and mint year in Hebrew and English. Featuring the design borrowed from Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 Double Eagle Coin, the United States Mint. Will introduce the 2018 American Gold Eagle BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) Coin. These coins are the 33rd release under this prestigious coin program – making it one of the longest-running coin programs in the world. Under a coin program authorized by the Liberty Coin Act, 1985, was issued in 1986. Ever since the earliest Gold Eagle launched, it became a desirable item amongst both collectors and investors. In fact, it has since become a name synonymous with quality gold and silver coins. The United States Mint has struck American Gold Eagles at several of its facilities. These 2018 American Gold Eagles originate from the West Point Mint in New York. With a long history of producing quality gold and silver bullion products, the United States Mint is considered one of the premier sources of precious metals products in the world. Their products usually portray designs that appeal to Americans – highlighting USA’s rich history, culture, or even significant symbols of the great nation. Over 225 years of operation later, it remains one of the most acclaimed government mints in the world. The obverse sides of these coins feature a design adapted from Saint-Gaudens’ Double Eagle design that circulated in 1907. With the sun’s rays framing her, Lady Liberty is striding forward, holding up her famed torch and an olive branch. The image depicts the continuous path of progress that America has been on, since attaining freedom. In fact, the design features the capitol building in the background, further cementing the aforementioned message. Furthermore, 50 stars surround Lady Liberty’s portrayal, along with the word’Liberty’ at the top. Miley Busiek’s brilliant portrayal of a family of bald eagles graces the reverse side of this coin. Meticulous attention to detail brings this engraving to life, making it one of the most recognizable American designs today. The face value of the coin, and the weight of gold in the coin is imprinted at the bottom of this side. E Pluribus Unum’ and’In God We Trust,’ the national mottos of the United States are featured on either side of the family of eagles. 1562, Royal France, Charles IX. Beautiful Gold Ecu Coin. Paris mint! NGC AU-58
1562, Royal France, Charles IX. Beautiful Gold Ecu Coin. Mint Year: 1562 Mint Place: Paris (A) Reference: Friedberg 378, Duplessy 1057. Certified and graded by NGC as AU-58! Denomination: Gold Ecu (Écu d’or au soleil, 1st type) Diameter: 23mm Material: Gold! Obverse: Sun above crowned coat-of-arms with three lis inside (royal french arms). Charles IX, by the grace of God, king of the French. Reverse: Floriated cross with mint initial (A) in the middle. Christ reigns and commands! Charles IX (27 June 1550 30 May 1574) born Charles-Maximilien , was King of France, ruling from 1560 until his death. He is best known as king at the time of the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre. After the death of his elder brother, François II, in 1560, he inherited the throne and was crowned King of France in 1560 in the cathedral at Reims. The politics of that era were greatly influenced by his mother, Catherine de’ Medici, who was regent for the ten-year-old Charles, and by the power of the opposing religious faction leaders; the Protestant-leaning House of Bourbon and the ultra-Catholic House of Guise. The first of the French Wars of Religion broke out in 156263 when armed Protestant troops seized many French cities following an attack on Protestant worshippers by retainers of the Duke of Guise. After a four-year period of peace, an attempt by Huguenot armies at Meaux to capture and control the king led to the Second War of Religion from 1567 to 1568. A third war raged chiefly in south-western France from 1568 to 1570 with foreign intervention. On 26 November 1570 Charles married Elisabeth of Austria. They had one daughter, Marie-Elisabeth (27 October 1572 9 April 1578). Charles IX also had an illegitimate son, the duc d’Angoulême, with his mistress, Marie Touchet. In 1572, Charles IX witnessed the massacre of thousands of Huguenots (Protestants) in and around Paris in what became known as the St. Bartholomew’s Day massacre. Charles IX did not long survive the Massacre. He had always been fragile, both emotionally and physically: emotionally, his moods now swung from coarse boasting about the extremity of the Massacre, to claims that the screams of the murdered Huguenots kept ringing in his ears. Frantically he blamed his mother: Who but you is the cause of all of this? God’s blood, you are the cause of it all! The Queen-mother responded by declaring she had a lunatic for a son. Physically, Charles had never been strong, tending towards tuberculosis. The strain following the Massacres weakened his body to the point where, by spring of 1574, the hoarse coughing turned bloody and the hemorrhages grew more violent. He became bedridden and delusional. On his last day, 30 May 1574, at the Château de Vincennes, Val-de-Marne, Charles called for Henry of Navarre, embraced him, and said, Brother, you are losing a good friend. Had I believed all that I was told, you would not be alive. But I always loved you… I trust you alone to look after my wife and daughter. Pray God for me. Charles was not yet twenty-four years old. The crown of France now passed to his brother, Henry III. The item “1562, Royal France, Charles IX. Beautiful Gold Ecu Coin. Paris mint! NGC AU-58″ is in sale since Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
