The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is minted by the Royal Canadian Mint. Introduced in 1979, as an alternative to the only gold bullion coin made at the time, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf has become one of the most popular ways to invest in gold coins. In 2013 a micro-engraved textured maple leaf done with laser technology was added to a small area of the reverse side of the coin. In the center of this mark is the coins year of issue, which is only visible under magnification. Then in 2015 the radial lines on the coin’s background on both sides of the coin was added.
