Substantial Solid Buttery Gold Victorian Fancy Link Chain and Half Sovereign Pendant. Lovely quality and craftsmanship. The case for the Half Sovereign is made from rolled gold (not solid gold) and thin glass. Solid gold would not have enough strength or spring to be used for this type of frame. The obverse side of the half sovereign has a young Victoria and is dated 1875. The reverse has a shield design. The coin looks to be in very fine condition with a few small marks from use. Total Weight: 27.72g. Dimeter of Pendant: 33.03mm. Length of Chain: 597mm. Condition: The is an antique replacement brass ring next to the claw clasp of the chain, please see image 6 for detail, and some rubbing to the rolled gold frame of the pendant near it’s top. There is also a slight scratch to the glass to the bottom right hand side on the obverse side – about 4mm.
