The rich design of this coin is the workmanship of Mr. Chen Jian of the Shanghai Mint who also created the designs for the 1982 Pandas. Each 1987 1/2 oz Gold Chinese Panda coin has a face value of 50 Yuan, backed by the People’s Bank of China. The design of the reverse side features a panda sipping from a pond along with the denomination and purity of the coin inscribed in Chinese characters. The obverse side of the Coin features the Temple of Heaven with the People’s Republic of China engraved above the temple in Chinese characters along with the year of production. Both NGC and PCGS have a program where they will compensate the owner of the current coin if they believe the coin deserves a lower grade than it had originally received. These bullion products are not certified and therefore will not always be 100% perfect.
