25, 1/4 Dollar solid gold antique California fractional-denomination gold token Not made by the U. Mint but rather a gold coin minted in California during gold-rush era in the 1800s usually utilizing goldf that had recently been found by miners, this particular example is undated, a round-shaped style with the Liberty face design, the coin has been holed towards the upper lefthand section. Mounted in a custom handcrafted sterling silver b kmezel ring setting, held into the bezel with four prongs, the band of the ring is a very attractive silver-braided pattern/design, which can only be created by hand and is a rather laborious style to create using silver, as the style was created with gold in mind as the material, with the gold’s malleability making it more manageable to craft into intricate braided patterns, silver examples which are made by hand are much less common. The coin itself has numerous scratches, as well as the small hole near the rim, but the image of the head is still perfectly visible and identifiable. The ring itself also has one small piece of the silver braid missing, not noticeable when being worn and structurally insignificant to the ring’s form overrall, but it may be seen in the listing photos as well, so take a look and judge it for yourself.
